Leaders in Training Program

The Western Engineering Outreach Leaders in Training (LiT) program has expanded to be offered during the school year. This program will challenge youth to develop personal leadership qualities through workshops, seminars, and activities. With sessions on communication, teamwork, professionalism, and goal setting, LiT's will be encouraged to explore and develop their own skills. This program is open to students currently in grade 9 to 12.

LiT's will be placed in an existing Western Engineering Outreach program to shadow a mentor instructor and to put their knowledge and experience in action. This shadowing is also supported by daily check-ins and reflections. 

Hours completed during the shadow sessions are eligible to count for high school volunteer hours. 

When is this offered? 

LiT I - Fall 2022 registration opens August 1, 2022.

LiT I runs in the summer and fall each year. This course offers an introduction to leadership and behaviour management and empowers students with the tools to be leaders in the classroom and life. 

Summer 2022 in-person instructional sessions will be offered July 11 - July 15 from 9am - 4pm. Students will be given a selection of shadow sessions for the two weeks following insructional workshops once the program begins.

Fall 2022 instructional sessions will be offered October 15 - November 5 on Saturdays from 9am - 1pm. Students will be given a selection of shadow sessions once they are registered in the LiT I program.

LiT II - Spring LiT II registration is now closed.

This follow-up session to LiT I gives students more experience in developing and leading their own activities and is a great option for those looking to increase their job qualifications. All workshops and activities are different from LiT I. All students are welcome to register for LiT II, regardless of completion of LiT I.

Spring 2022 instructional sessions will be offered virtually on March 26, April 2, April 9, April 23, April 30 on Saturdays from 1pm - 3pm. Students will be given a selection of summer shadow sessions once they are registered in the LiT II program.

Summer 2022 in-person instructional sessions will be offered August 8 - August 12 from 9am - 4pm. Students will be given a selection of shadow sessions for the two weeks following instructional workshops once the program begins.

What is the cost? 

Summer 2022: LiT I and LiT II are $250

Fall 2022: LiT I is $160
